The answer is simple . . if you really like this person, and you are happy for him and his new Bride, then giving a gift would be considered "very thoughtful" on your part. I'm sure he would be "pleasantly surprised" if you gave him a gift.
Here's two winning suggestions . . take them out for Sunday brunch about a week or two after they return from their honeymoon OR gift them a gift certificate to a nice restaurant, newlyweds love to go out for dinner.

If your boss doesn't invite to his wedding, do you still get a gift?
I think the idea for a group gift or card is good.
Reply:No, you do not have to.
It is never required, whether you can attend or not, or whether you've been invited or not.
Reply:I think it totally depends on the situation. If you are very close to your boss, or have worked there for a long time, a good bottle of wine would be a nice gesture. He may have chosen not to invite coworkers because of his budget or because he couldn't invite you without including the whole staff. If he is "just your boss" and you don't feel close to him, a card is fine.
Reply:Nope, that's his other life which you are not a part of.
Reply:No!
Did you get me a gift for MY wedding?
What kind of a crazy question is that?!
Reply:noooo, a card (emply) is fine
Reply:You don't have to.
If you feel that you want to, maybe go in on a gift with people from your office. You can just give him a card, too.
Reply:I dont think you need to get him a present if you are not invited to the wedding. Just a nice card, if you are feeling generous maybe a gift card or a bottle of wine.
Reply:I think a card from all in the office is enough
Reply:I think a card would be appropriate.
Reply:Nope. I'd say congratulations and leave it at that.
Reply:Yes. That is polite. He probably couldnt do it for budgeting purposes.
Reply:If you are not invited to the wedding, you are not obligated to get a gift for him and his new bride.
You could, however, get a token gift to congratulate them if you wish. Since it is your boss, make sure it isn't anything extravagant.
Reply:No invitation, no gift.
