If you could invite five figures from religious history to dinner, who would they be?

Jesus, Elijah, David, Mary Magdelene *sp*, Mary - Jesus's mother.
If you could invite five figures from religious history to dinner, who would they be?
I only want to have dinner with one figure, and though he wrote about religion, I doubt anyone but me would recognize him as a religious figure...

Richard Hofstadter, the author of THE PARANOID STYLE OF AMERICAN POLITICS.

I like to see how he'd handle the alarmist nonsense we have to put up with today.
Reply:Gandhi and Gandhi alone!

Gandhi quotes:

"I believe in equality for everyone, except reporters and photographers."

"I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent."

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."
Reply:Now that's a fun question!

I need to ask my personal spritual guidance team about that.

I could throw out some names, but I think I really want to take this one in, and truly ask from within who I would have dinner with. There's lots to chat about that's for sure.

:) Thanks for the question.

Have a good night!

Oh, and what about you? Who would you invite?
Reply:Instead of asking about an event that can never happen, why not ask yourself which 5 people that you know around you that you can and do invite to a real dinner party at your place. Forget the impossible and concentrate on the feasible and practical.
Reply:Rabbi Luria (The Ari, 'The Holy Lion') - A major figure in Judaism and Kabbalah

Maimonides -- One of the foremost Jewish Arbiters.

Heck, give me just those two and I'd be happy.

But to round out the group --

The last of the Shogun

The Buddha

The first incarnation of Vishnu.
Reply:Odin, Jesus, Brigid (A celtic goddess converted into a christian saint, also pronounced "breed" And I would want to talk to the goddess not the saint.), Cali, And The great spirit.

Though I think that might be one hell of a conversation.

Damn too bad there are only 5 cause I would definatly include Buddah and Confusius in that as well.

What a fun question. Star for you.

I like it....
Reply:Jesus, Peter, Paul, John, and David.

I would ask Jesus when He is coming back to get us.

I would ask Peter what it felt like when He realized Jesus was God?

I would ask Paul what is was like going up against the entire world?

I would ask John to tell me more about seeing heaven.

I would ask David to tell me why he loved God so much?
Reply:First 3, definitely:

1. Simon Peter - To ask him if Jesus was a flesh-and-blood person; and slug it out with Paul.

2. Saul "Paul" of Tarsus - To slug it out with Peter.

3. Muhammad.

The last 2 are toughies:

4. David Hume.

5. Montezuma.

(A lot of other people on the "short" list, including Jesus, Voltaire, and Siddharta Gautama.)
Reply:Jesus of Nazareth- Should be obvious enough (plus, we'd need some wine)

Simon Bar Kokhba- See if he viewed himself as the Messiah

Siddhattha Gotama- Founder of the very peace-loving religion

Abu l-Qasim Muhammad ibn ‘Abd Allāh al-Hashimi al-Qurashi- Get the views of Islam from its actual founder

L Ron Hubbard- Just for the heck of it
Reply:1-2) Adam %26amp; Eve: because they're the ones I really want to ask "why". :)

3) Moses: because I would like to find out the actual route he took from Egypt.

4) Abraham: because I would like to have him confirm for some folks (not saying who) which son he took to the alter.

and of course

5) Jesus: because to be in his presence for even a moment would be more wonderful than anything I've known in my life.

Good question by the way. It actually gave us something to think about.
Reply:Wow, tough pick because I find many of the prophets and the apostles amazing. Jesus. I've always been drawn to Paul. Moses because God considered him a friend and of course Abraham and John the beloved.
Reply:Moses, Jesus, Mohammad, Siddhartha Gautama, and Confucius.

I'd like to see them come to some kind of agreement, and make a religion which makes perfect sense.
Reply:ya, i'd have trouble limiting it to five. five hundred maybe. i gotta lotta questions.
Reply:Is there a requirement that the invitees must be real...? .... cuz I'm thinking of God, Allah, Jesus, Moses, and Adam.... and I doubt that any of them were actually real.
Reply:Moses cos I love sailing - no seriously - Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalen, the infamous doudting Thomas and yes Moses cos I would love to hear of his epic journey and Josephus (a religoius writer of Christ's time)
Reply:Carl Sagan, Bertrand Russel, Fredrick Nietzche, Timothy Leary, and Terrence McKenna.
Reply:Morrison

Bill Hicks
